Three tied at halfway point of Andalucia Open
Malaga, Spain (AHN Sports) – There’s a crowd at and near the top of the leaderboard at the Andalucia Open.
The trio of Jeppe Huldahl, Maarten Lafeber and Rikard Karlberg are in at eight-under par, 132 through 36 holes at the Parador de Malaga Golf.
Paul Lawrie, the former Open champion who is looked to break a nine-year winless drought, is just one shot behind at seven-under along with Jamie Elson and Tetsuii Hiratsuka.
In all there are 20 players within four shots of the lead going into the weekend.
Karlberg is in the field on a sponsor’s invitation. He has no European Tour status but has won twice on the Asian Tour. “The key to my score was hitting a lot of fairways,” he said.
Jeppe is a former winner of the Celtic Manor Open while Lafeber has one European Tour win to his credit.
Pre-tournament favorite Alvaro Quiros got himself into contention with a second round 65 that put him at four-under par.
The 36-hole cut came at one-ounder par. Big names missing the cut included Jose Maria Olazabal (70-71), Colin Montgomerie (70-72) and tournament host Miguel-Angel Jimenez (72-73).
