Sununu endorses Bergeron as GOP chairman
CONCORD – Outgoing Republican State Chairman John E. Sununu on Monday endorsed Keene businesswoman Juliana Bergeron to replace him. Bergeron, 57, is a committed, social and fiscal conservative with the needed administrative and fundraising skills to maintain the historic successes the GOP won last November, Sununu told reporters during a conference call. “Without a doubt, Juliana has the breadth of experience, breadth of involvement and breadth of capacity to do this broad job of keeping us together,” Sununu said. The former governor stressed this was no criticism of the other candidate for this nonpaying job, 2010 candidate for governor Jack Kimball of Dover. “Jack Kimball is a dear friend; I respect Jack,” Sununu said. Bergeron pledged she would protect the gains the GOP made under Sununu. “Governor Sununu will be a difficult act for any Republican to follow, but our party needs to continue its efforts to defend our conservative majorities and defeat the Democrats in the upcoming presidential election,” Bergeron said in a statement. “As party chairman, I will maintain a strong relationship with our conservative grassroots community, effectively manage state committee operations and protect our conservative Republican platform.” Kimball said he remains optimistic about winning the post later this month and said it’s no surprise Sununu is with Bergeron. “I can tell you this is something I would not be doing,” Kimball said of Sununu’s endorsement.
