NFL, players deadlock heads to federal court; oral arguments
St. Paul, MN, United States (AHN Sports) – After more than three weeks since the lockout, the NFL and the NFL Players Association take their labor impasse to federal court Wednesday.
On Wednesday, arguments for and against an injunction to lift the NFL lockout will be heard in the court of U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson.
Oral arguments will be made before Judge Nelson Wednesday in the case of Brady et al v. NFL to determine whether to grant the player’s request for injunctive relief to end the lockout instituted by NFL owners on March 12.
New England Patriots’ Tom Brady, along with fellow star quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, are among the 10 plaintiffs in an antitrust lawsuit against the NFL.
Apart from requests for an injunction to stop the lockout, antitrust lawsuits were initiated by current NFL players and retirees against the NFL.
An immediate decision is not expected but a ruling could provide the way to break the impasse toward a settlement.
The losing side is expected to elevate the ruling to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
